The Bear and The Apple Tree

Once upon a time, there was a hungry, hungry bear. He was so hungry, that he went tromping through the forest.

He came across a bunny rabbit, and asked the rabbit in a gruff voice.

"Rabbit, where can I find some food?"

And rabbit said to the bear, "well, there's an apple tree just behind the old miller's place, just up the road."

So the big angry bear stomped down the road, and came across a moose. He said to the moose "Grrrrr, where can I get some food?"

And the moose said "there's an apple tree just down the road, behind the old miller's place."

And so the bear went stomping down the road again. He came across a squirrel on the road. He looked down at the squirrel and said "squirrel! Where can I find some food!"

And the squirrel responded "oh, I heard that there's an apple tree up the road, by the old miller's place."

And the bear stomped down the road. He came upon a house, and behind it stood a tall tree, with fresh green leaves.

But when the bear got to the tree, all of the apples had been picked clean! There wasn't a single apple to be had!

"What happened?" cried the bear.

"Oh", replied the fox, who was lurking nearby. "When you asked the rabbit about the apple tree, all the animals around wanted one, and so they rushed to the old miller's place. And then when you asked the moose about the apple tree, all of the animals were already feasting. And when you asked the squirrel where the apple tree was, everyone had juuust finished up eating. By the time you had gotten here, all of the apples had been eaten!"

And so the big old bear walked off in a huff. His tummy growled as he walked down the road, back to his den. "Grrrrr", said the bear. "There was a whole apple tree full of apples, and I didn't get ONE!"

As the evening wore on, there was a knock on the wall. It was the animals from the forest! The animals had gotten together, and baked him a whole apple pie! After hearing the poor bear's plight, the animals had realized that they had not thought of old bear, who had wanted the apples in the first place, and who's very suggestion had led them there to begin with.

They all gotten together and baked him an apple pie, with all of the apples that they had carried off.

And so the bear had a wonderful evening, sharing the pie with his newfound friends <3
